The above is what we started with. My parents built this in the early 70’s, with the intentions of getting a permit until a car accident took my mother out of action. They unfortunately never sided it either. It was used for housing three horses on our 2.5 acre plot for almost 15 years until my father could no longer care for them with his asthma and a five year old to run after. Don’t worry, they went to a good home. For years my wife and I watched it slowly rot away, not wanting to pump money into a structure we feared we may have to tear down. We finally got the Town, after spending lots of money and time, to allow us to keep it. We now had our permit, but reality was about to hit hard with how much work there was to get this back to where it should have been all along.

Here’s a picture of how the barn looked right after they built it in the 70’s. It was tar papered and ready for siding. Unfortunately life got in the way and that was the beginning of it’s eventual decay.

After much debate, my wife and I came up with this as our final plan for the barn.  The front windows will be approximately 30″ x 54″ and the french doors will be 60″ wide x 72″ high. This leaves enough room for the barn doors I make to slide without sliding over the windows. Stay tuned till the next post when we start to finally remove the walls and see what we are working with.
